Lahontan, NV
Lahontan Reservoir is located on the Carson River 15 miles west of Fallon, NV. Lahontan Dam was built in 1915 and is operated by the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District. Lahontan Reservoir is approximately 17 miles long and made up of multiple straits. At full capacity, the reservoir has a surface area of 10,000 acres and storage of 289,721 acre-ft. Average elevation is approximately 4150 ft AMSL. Water level is fed by the Carson River at the southwestern end and the Truckee Canal at the northeastern end. Average temperatures reach 95 °F in the summer and 46 °F in the winter. Annual precipitation is 4.8 inches. Inflows are dominated by springtime snowmelt in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west and water releases from the Truckee River.
